A nine-year-old Standard Four pupil at Abel Memorial Pre and Primary School, Andrey Abel, has attracted attention after developing a mobile application aimed at improving communication between the school and parents.
The application, known as “Abel Memorial Kiganjani,” was unveiled during the school’s eighth-anniversary celebration and Standard Seven graduation ceremony held in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.
The innovative project is part of the school’s efforts to embrace technology while promoting environmental responsibility by reducing reliance on paper-based communication.
PUPIL TURNS IDEA INTO DIGITAL SOLUTION
Explaining the inspiration behind the project, Andrey said he wanted to help reduce the amount of paper used by the school while making it easier for parents to access important information.
“The app will help parents access all the key information about the school and their children. It will save them time, reduce paperwork and, in turn, help conserve the environment,” said Andrey.
Through Abel Memorial Kiganjani, parents will be able to access important school updates and information concerning their children in one place.
The application complements the school’s existing communication channels, including its website and social media platforms.
SCHOOL PLANS TO EXPAND ICT FACILITIES
Speaking during the ceremony, Abel Memorial Pre and Primary School Founder and Director, Engineer Stanslaus Mwalongo, said the school would continue investing in technology and modern learning facilities.
He announced plans to expand the school’s ICT laboratory by adding more computers to strengthen practical ICT learning among pupils.
Mwalongo also revealed plans to construct dormitories for Standard Four and Standard Seven pupils, particularly during periods when they are preparing for national examinations.
According to the Director, the facilities will provide pupils with a conducive and focused environment for examination preparation, with the aim of improving academic performance.
SCHOOL EMPHASISES CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
The anniversary and graduation ceremony also placed emphasis on the importance of discipline, responsibility and character development among pupils.
The event began with a Holy Mass led by Father Paul Malewa of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Bunju.
In his homily, Father Malewa urged parents to take an active role in raising responsible children and preparing them for adulthood.
He encouraged parents to allow children to learn basic responsibilities such as washing their own clothes and cleaning instead of doing everything for them.
“Let children learn to wash their own clothes and to clean, rather than simply pampering them. Failing to do so will see them grow into irresponsible adults,” Father Malewa said.
The ceremony also featured a range of pupil performances, including mathematics and language demonstrations, fashion displays and traditional dances, showcasing the school’s emphasis on holistic development.
ABEL MEMORIAL MARKS EIGHT YEARS
Abel Memorial Pre and Primary School is a private pre-primary and primary school based in Dar es Salaam and was founded by Engineer Stanslaus Mwalongo.
The school, now marking its eighth year, combines academic education with a focus on technology, environmental responsibility and character development.
Pupils at the school are taught English, Kiswahili and Chinese, alongside other academic and co-curricular activities.
The launch of Abel Memorial Kiganjani marks another step in the school’s efforts to embrace digital innovation and encourage pupils to turn creative ideas into practical solutions.
