
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), held a bilateral meeting with Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for African affairs in Port Louis, Mauritius, on 11th April 2026 in a bid to boost the Tanzania & Egypt Strategic Alliance as they push for trade, energy, and continued collaboration in regional and international platforms.
During the meeting, the two Ministers discussed ways to strengthen further diplomatic relations and economic cooperation between Tanzania and Egypt, which are built on a long-standing foundation of historical friendship and collaboration established by the founding leaders of both nations.
In their discussions, they emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation in key economic sectors, particularly trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, and industrial development, to promote economic growth for the benefit of their citizens.
They also exchanged views and experiences on regional and international issues affecting the African continent, agreeing on the need to enhance African unity in addressing common challenges such as climate change, regional security, and sustainable development.
The two ministers also emphasised the importance of continued collaboration in regional and international platforms, including support for the development of the blue economy and the sustainable use of marine resources.
Ambassador Kombo and Deputy Minister Fattah are in Mauritius to participate in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference, taking place from April 10 to 12, 2026, where leaders from Indian Ocean rim countries are engaging with various stakeholders on economic opportunities, maritime security, and regional cooperation in the region.
